Corporate charitable giving is engrained in the MedAssets culture and core values. Each year at the Healthcare Business Summit, outstanding individuals are recognized to reflect our strong belief that everyone is entitled to treatment that is dignified and loving. The following awards were presented during the 2014 Summit to those who have demonstrated tremendous selflessness, dedication, honor and bravery. It is the company’s hope that this recognition will raise awareness of each recipient’s important contributions.
The George Herbert Walker Bush Pacesetter Award honors a veteran who has served the Nation honorably and through great sacrifice and who has embraced the opportunity to serve others both inside and outside of the United States Armed Forces uniform.
2013 George Herbert Walker Bush Pacesetter Award Recipient – Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Petry, 2nd Battalion, 75th Army Ranger Regiment of the United States Army and Medal of Honor recipient was recognized for his heroic efforts during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008. Petry lost his right hand in a grenade explosion while saving the lives of two fellow Rangers. Watch the video >>
The Hire Heroes USA Pacesetter Award recognizes an individual who has made significant personal and professional contributions to Hire Heroes USA. This year, Mary Ellen Curran, VP, Community Relations, WWE, was honored for championing Hire Heroes to leaders of WWE.
The Norman Borlaug Humanitarian Award honors an individual or individuals who have exhibited extraordinary behavior in helping others and making a difference in our world. The award is named after Dr. Norman Borlaug, a Nobel Peace Prize winner who dedicated his life’s work to finding ways to end famine and feed the world’s hungry.
2013 Norman Borlaug Humanitarian Award Recipient– Gladys and Edgar Guitz of Potter’s House, were honored for their outstanding humanitarian efforts to guide children and families that live in Latin America’s largest garbage dump out of poverty and toward a better life. Watch the video >>
MedAssets is committed to making the lives of our nation’s deployed service men and women easier. During the 2014 Healthcare Business Summit, more than 1,800 care packages were assembled by Summit attendees and distributed to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Created by MedAssets to provide a touch of home and boost morale for troops deployed overseas, the Marine Staff Sgt. Oscar Canon Military Care Package Program sends 300 care packages each quarter to service men and women serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. In addition, each year at the annual Healthcare Business Summit, we invite Summit attendees to sponsor and/or volunteer to assemble a military care package. This year’s care package assembly event will be held on Wednesday, April 3 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
All attendees who elected during registration to sponsor a care package in the amount of $21.52 will receive a red, white and blue ribbon for their badge to show their support of our troops. If you didn’t sign up to sponsor a package, you still can participate by attending the care package assembly event on Wednesday. We hope to see you there!
